Martin and Buckland formed the band after meeting at college in 1996. Over the next year the band filled out with Berryman and Champion. in 1998 the band released their first EP "Safety." The band's work begin to circulate and after signing to an independent label, they released "Brothers and Sisters EP." The success of this EP earned them a five record deal with Parlophone in England.

Coldplay released their first album in 2000 "Parachutes" which reached number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 200 and has since gone on to be certified double platinum in the United States. 2002's "A Rush of Blood to the Head" peaked at number 5 and is currently certified as a 4 times platinum in the US. 2005's "X & Y" was the top selling album in the United States upon release and has since gone 3 times platinum. 2008's "Viva lad Vida or Death and All His Friends" also topped the charts for its release and is currently double platinum.

All Coldplay albums have been released through Capitol Records in the United States and the band is one of the best selling groups of the decade. « hide
