Ramayana, an Indian Epic Performed as a Balinese Dance Drama

An ensemble of musicians and dancers perform the exquisite adaption of the Ramayana, brought to Bali from India in the early centuries of the Christian era. It depicts the saga of Rama, who must rescue his queen, Sita aided by the great Monkey general, Hanuman. A dance drama of lust and abduction, of war, love and loyalty, it is portrayed in electrifying dances, magnificent costumes and masks, and the shimmering sounds of the gamelan orchestra.
